She Matters 4 Canada
Cheryl Bear is the former She Matters spokesperson from the Nadleh Whutèn community in Northern British Columbia. Cheryl is an award-winning performer and educator who shares stories on the Indigenous life- the joy, sorrow, faith, and journey. Cheryl Bear is an excellent example of an amazing indigenous female leader who focuses on empowering and encourage women in Canada- aboriginal, or non-aboriginal.
She Matters 4 Canada is a Canadian Baptist organization that provides awareness for the missing and murdered indigenous women in Canada. In Canada, Aboriginal women are killed at six times the rate of non-aboriginal women, many have simply gone missing. Past years of She Matters have focused on girl education, microcredit for women entrepreneurs, and empowering female leaders- aboriginal or non-aboriginal. Women have the power to be the greatest influencers but are denied the opportunity because of gender inequality. Aboriginal women are a major part of our amazing country and the Canadian culture, which is why we need to do better and raise awareness.
